The Microelectronic Systems Laboratory (LSM) at EPFL operates as a part of the Institute of Electrical Engineering (IEL), concentrating its activities on the design and implementation of high-performance digital and mixed-signal VLSI circuits, language-based modeling and validation of SoC components, neuromorphic / bio-inspired system architectures, and integration of novel technologies for complex system design.

The teaching objective of LSM is to offer comprehensive undergraduate and graduate education programs in digital / mixed-signal IC design and VLSI system design to our Electrical Engineering and Microengineering (Microtechnique) students.

The facilities of the Microelectronic Systems Laboratory include a state-of-the-art EDA environment for VLSI design, as well as test and measurement labs for detailed chip-level and system-level characterization.

[15 July 2018] Our new book entitled "Design Automation for Differential MOS Current-Mode Logic Circuits" co-authored by Stephane Badel, Can Baltaci, Alessandro Cevrero, and Yusuf Leblebici, has been published by Springer, under ISBN: 978-3-319-91306-3. This book covers a wide range of design issues related to current-model differential logic (CML) circuits that are essential for new generation high-speed data communication interfaces, including special design automation approaches that were developed exclusively at LSM since 2006.

[1 July 2017] Our new book entitled "Design and Implementation of Real-Time Multi-Sensor Vision Systems" co-authored by Vladan Popovic, Kerem Seyid, Ömer Çoğal, Abdülkadir Akın, and Yusuf Leblebici, has been published by Springer, under ISBN: 3319590561. This book covers every important aspect of multi-camera systems, ranging from image stitching algorithms to custom-designed hardware architectures, and it represents the culmination of our research activities in this domain, which have been carried out since 2009.

[23 June 2016] The recent work by Ömer Çoğal (PhD 2015) on highly miniaturized omnidirectional camera systems for medical applications has been highlighted in the latest issue of Nature (Volume 534, No. 7608, Page 439) under Research Highlights.

[2 October 2015] Lukas Kull (PhD 2014), LSM alumnus, has received the prestigious EPFL Doctorate Award 2015 (Prix EPFL) for his thesis entitled "High-Speed CMOS ADC Design for 100 Gb/s Communication Systems" at a special awards ceremony attended by the EPFL direction and distinguished guests. This happens to be the first ever EPFL Doctorate Award to be presented in the domain of microelectronics and integrated circuit (IC) design. Congratulations Lukas !
